FARMING
IN CAMPHILL

The earth needs regenerative agriculture. It needs stewards - people who will care for the forests, fields, waterways, and all those who call them home - for the next generation and all those who follow.

You can help. Become a biodynamic farmer in Camphill.

Learn regenerative agriculture, grow food, and heal the earth

As a movement, we have set ourselves the task of nurturing and healing. We choose biodynamic agriculture as our approach to accomplishing this task on the land.

Many Camphill communities have farms where they raise cows, pigs, chickens, and sheep. They have gardens where they grow vegetables, berries, small grains, and herbs. They practice seed saving. They tend orchards of many fruit trees you’ve heard of and perhaps a few you haven’t. They gather honey from their beehives and process their other harvests into jams, ferments, teas, tinctures, ointments, and culinary herbs. Fresh, raw milk is turned into yogurt and cheeses or enjoyed by the glassful. During the growing season, the food couldn’t be fresher – it’s harvested in the morning and by lunch it’s on the table.

“What is so appealing to me about growing biodynamically is that there is not just a taking, but a giving too. The plants, the soil, the microorganisms, the elements, the animals, and the people - the health of all of us is interconnected.”
~ Leah Fisher

What is biodynamics?

Biodynamics is a is a holistic, ecological, and ethical approach to farming, gardening, food, and nutrition. It is about reverence for the land and for water, for food, animals, and each other.  It goes beyond sustainability – it’s regenerative agriculture. Biodynamic farming practices clean our air by sequestering carbon in the soil and uses no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. Animals are treated with compassion and respect and given the freedom to lead happier lives.

The food raised and grown this way is deeply nourishing and delicious.

“The amount of responsibility that we are entrusted with is truly awesome. There are amazing people here to support us and help us out when we need them, but with the garden and the other things we do, we are given space to figure it out ourselves, to learn along the way.”
