The foundation of life and work in Camphill communities is the conviction that every person is more than their physical and psychological make-up; their essential spiritual being is unimpaired and whole. In this respect, all of us are equal, no matter what our limitations or gifts appear to be.
Individuals are encouraged to take up a path of personal growth and development which will strengthen one’s independence of thought and judgement. Developing one’s inner creativity benefits those around you as well as oneself, while taking responsibility for one’s life and destiny enriches one’s connection to other people.
Camphill communities strive to establish an interdependent community based on equality in the realm of social cooperation; freedom in the spiritual/cultural life supported by the voice of conscience in one’s private life (responsible freedom); and fellowship in the sphere of economy based on this underlying social principle:
